Downtown Traffic on Saturday Could Cause Problems with Activites

The Lexington Police Department is issuing a traffic alert ahead of a busy Saturday in downtown Lexington.

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the Shamrock Shuffle 3K, St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival, and the KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 Tournament Semifinals and Championship Games will take place in downtown Lexington.

Anyone traveling to the events or in the area should use extreme caution and allow plenty of extra time to make it to their destination safely. Anyone in the area should expect higher vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Officers will be in the area to assist with traffic. Motorists and pedestrians should follow all directions given by the officers, as well as all posted traffic signs and signals.

Below is a list of the events, times, and road closures.

Events

Shamrock Shuffle 3K
Start time: 8:30 a.m.

Lexington St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival
Events planned from 10:45 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 Tournaments
Semifinal games are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Road Closures

W Main Street between N Upper Street and N Mill Street
Closure 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

W Short Street between N Upper Street and N Mill Street
Closure 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Main Street between Midland Avenue and N Mill Street
Closure 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Midland Avenue
Closure from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Main Street between Midland Avenue and N Mill Street
Closure 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

As always, the Lexington Police Department is asking anyone traveling in the area to stay alert and don’t drive distracted or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
